Scriptures this week<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

John 4: 1-26<\/strong>
4 Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that he was making more disciples and baptizing more than John (2 although Jesus\u2019 disciples were baptizing, not Jesus himself). 3 Therefore, he left Judea and went back to Galilee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus in Samaria
4 Jesus had to go through Samaria. 5 He came to a Samaritan city called Sychar, which was near the land Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob\u2019s well was there. Jesus was tired from his journey, so he sat down at the well. It was about noon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7 A Samaritan woman came to the well to draw water. Jesus said to her, \u201cGive me some water to drink.\u201d 8 His disciples had gone into the city to buy him some food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9 The Samaritan woman asked, \u201cWhy do you, a Jewish man, ask for something to drink from me, a Samaritan woman?\u201d (Jews and Samaritans didn\u2019t associate with each other.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10 Jesus responded, \u201cIf you recognized God\u2019s gift and who is saying to you, \u2018Give me some water to drink,\u2019 you would be asking him and he would give you living water.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

11 The woman said to him, \u201cSir, you don\u2019t have a bucket and the well is deep. Where would you get this living water? 12 You aren\u2019t greater than our father Jacob, are you? He gave this well to us, and he drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

13 Jesus answered, \u201cEveryone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks from the water that I will give will never be thirsty again. The water that I give will become in those who drink it a spring of water that bubbles up into eternal life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

15 The woman said to him, \u201cSir, give me this water, so that I will never be thirsty and will never need to come here to draw water!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

16 Jesus said to her, \u201cGo, get your husband, and come back here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

17 The woman replied, \u201cI don\u2019t have a husband.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou are right to say, \u2018I don\u2019t have a husband,\u2019\u201d Jesus answered. 18 \u201cYou\u2019ve had five husbands, and the man you are with now isn\u2019t your husband. You\u2019ve spoken the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

19 The woman said, \u201cSir, I see that you are a prophet. 20 Our ancestors worshipped on this mountain, but you and your people say that it is necessary to worship in Jerusalem.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

21 Jesus said to her, \u201cBelieve me, woman, the time is coming when you and your people will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You and your people worship what you don\u2019t know; we worship what we know because salvation is from the Jews. 23 But the time is coming\u2014and is here!\u2014when true worshippers will worship in spirit and truth. The Father looks for those who worship him this way. 24 God is spirit, and it is necessary to worship God in spirit and truth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

25 The woman said, \u201cI know that the Messiah is coming, the one who is called the Christ. When he comes, he will teach everything to us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

26 Jesus said to her, \u201cI Am\u2014the one who speaks with you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amos 5: 21 \u2013 24<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

21 I hate, I reject your festivals;
I don\u2019t enjoy your joyous assemblies.
22 If you bring me your entirely burned offerings and gifts of food\u2014
I won\u2019t be pleased;
I won\u2019t even look at your offerings of well-fed animals.
23 Take away the noise of your songs;
I won\u2019t listen to the melody of your harps.
24 But let justice roll down like waters,
and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
