As the Lord forgave you, so also forgive each other. 14 And over all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. 15 The peace of Christ must control your hearts\u2014a peace into which you were called in one body. And be thankful people. 16 The word of Christ must live in you richly. Teach and warn each other with all wisdom by singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 Whatever you do, whether in speech or action, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus and give thanks to God the Father through him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-bd6d828873b75db3fc0a628833c0e58d\"><strong>2 Samuel 21:1-14<\/strong><br>21 There was a famine for three years in a row during David\u2019s rule. David asked the Lord about this, and the Lord said, \u201cIt is caused by Saul and his household, who are guilty of bloodshed because he killed the people of Gibeon.\u201d 2 So the king called for the Gibeonites and spoke to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6173e061b153b85e59c4314f10b36a84\">(Now the Gibeonites weren\u2019t Israelites but were survivors of the Amorites. The Israelites had sworn a solemn pledge to spare them, but Saul tried to eliminate them in his enthusiasm for the people of Israel and Judah.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-fc3a908b91d820790f9d68d81bd4d88b\">3 David said to the Gibeonites, \u201cWhat can I do for you? How can I fix matters so you can benefit from the Lord\u2019s inheritance?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d0fd4e7fc8691836d331251cc1015783\">4 The Gibeonites said to him, \u201cWe don\u2019t want any silver or gold from Saul or his family, and it isn\u2019t our right to have anyone in Israel killed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4ee9220293f0d6e69618dbcedb4417d3\">\u201cWhat do you want?\u201d David asked. \u201cI\u2019ll do it for you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9a12cf3f119b30d86147b2df05912c2e\">5 \u201cOkay then,\u201d they said to the king. \u201cThat man who opposed and oppressed us, who planned to destroy us, keeping us from having a place to live anywhere in Israel\u2014 6 hand over seven of his sons to us, and we will hang them before the Lord at Gibeon on the Lord\u2019s mountain.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI will hand them over,\u201d the king said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-430949a0a7e8d658f5b2197a88c902b3\">7 But the king spared Mephibosheth, Jonathan\u2019s son and Saul\u2019s grandson, because of the Lord\u2019s solemn pledge that was between them\u2014between David and Saul\u2019s son Jonathan. 8 So the king took the two sons of Aiah\u2019s daughter Rizpah, Armoni and Mephibosheth, whom she had birthed for Saul; and the five sons of Saul\u2019s daughter Merab, whom she birthed for Adriel, Barzillai\u2019s son, who was from Meholah, 9 and he handed them over to the Gibeonites. They hanged them on the mountain before the Lord. The seven of them died at the same time. They were executed in the first days of the harvest, at the beginning of the barley harvest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-94a1846212d040c08d0b0e1b576de880\">10 Aiah\u2019s daughter Rizpah took funeral clothing and spread it out by herself on a rock. She stayed there from the beginning of the harvest until the rains poured down on the bodies from the sky, and she wouldn\u2019t let any birds of prey land on the bodies during the day or let wild animals come at nighttime. 11 When David was told what Aiah\u2019s daughter Rizpah, Saul\u2019s secondary wife, had done, 12 he went and retrieved the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan from the citizens of Jabesh-gilead, who had stolen the bones from the public square in Beth-shan, where the Philistines had hanged them on the day the Philistines killed Saul at Gilboa. 13 David brought the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan from there and collected the bones of the men who had been hanged by the Gibeonites. 14 The bones of Saul and his son Jonathan were then buried in Zela, in Benjaminite territory, in the tomb of Saul\u2019s father Kish.
