They asked, \u201cWhat kind of authority do you have for doing these things? Who gave you this authority?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>24 Jesus replied, \u201cI have a question for you. If you tell me the answer, I\u2019ll tell you what kind of authority I have to do these things. 25 Where did John get his authority to baptize? Did he get it from heaven or from humans?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They argued among themselves, \u201cIf we say \u2018from heaven,\u2019 he\u2019ll say to us, \u2018Then why didn\u2019t you believe him?\u2019 26 But we can\u2019t say \u2018from humans\u2019 because we\u2019re afraid of the crowd, since everyone thinks John was a prophet.\u201d 27 Then they replied, \u201cWe don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus also said to them, \u201cNeither will I tell you what kind of authority I have to do these things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parable of two sons<br>28 \u201cWhat do you think? A man had two sons. Now he came to the first and said, \u2018Son, go and work in the vineyard today.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>29 \u201c\u2018No, I don\u2019t want to,\u2019 he replied. But later he changed his mind and went.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>30 \u201cThe father said the same thing to the other son, who replied, \u2018Yes, sir.\u2019 But he didn\u2019t go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>31 \u201cWhich one of these two did his father\u2019s will?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They said, \u201cThe first one.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus said to them, \u201cI assure you that tax collectors and prostitutes are entering God\u2019s kingdom ahead of you. 32 For John came to you on the righteous road, and you didn\u2019t believe him. But tax collectors and prostitutes believed him.
