I enjoy meeting with people there, in the in-between space, surrounded by the books that have nurtured and taught us.\u201d<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Peter was born into a non-denominational Christian community in England, giving him early experience of living out faith in every aspect of life. He studied English Literature at Stirling University, where he also encountered theologies of liberation and solidarity, calling followers of Jesus into action for social justice. Following that call he came to Turtle Island in 2010 to work with <a style=\"pointer-events: none;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cpt.org\/\">Christian Peacemaker Teams<\/a> as part of the <a style=\"pointer-events: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/cpt.org\/programs\/tisn\">Indigenous Solidarity<\/a> program. Peter has been active in interpreting issues of decolonization and solidarity to the Church through sermons, workshops, and two chapters in <a style=\"pointer-events: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.commonword.ca\/ResourceView\/2\/19793\"><em>Unsettling the Word &#8211; Biblical Experiments in Decolonization<\/em> <\/a>(Mennonite Church Canada 2018).<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">After attending for several years, Peter formally joined TUMC in 2015 and has served on Preaching Team, as a Junior Youth Sunday School teacher, and as a consultant to the Mission and Service Committee. Since 2016, Peter has been the National Coordinator of the <a style=\"pointer-events: none;\" href=\"http:\/\/scmcanada.org\/\">Student Christian Movement of Canada<\/a> (SCM). In that role Peter is a core organizer of the <a style=\"pointer-events: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cahootsfest.ca\/\">Cahoots Festival<\/a>, an annual ecumenical skill-sharing event focused on faith and justice.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Peter accepted a call to pastoral ministry at TUMC in November 2019.<br>Peter is married to Ken, and lives in the intergenerational St. Clair O&#8217;Connor Community. I am inspired by the many, many people of different ages that contribute to the musical leadership in our worship. Singers,<br>pianists, instrumentalists, song leaders, and the special music that is brought to us by the children, all add an emotional and spiritual depth to our glorification of God that binds us together, fosters joy and connects us in moments of grief and world pain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Christina grew up at Rockway Mennonite Church in Kitchener-Waterloo, where she was baptized, attended Silver Lake Mennonite Camp as a camper (and has continued to be a part of<br>that community in some capacity for over 40 years), graduated from Rockway Mennonite Collegiate, studied theology for two years at Canadian Mennonite University, and moved home<br>to Waterloo, where she continued to study theology, psychology and world religions. This is also where she met her husband, Mike. Christina and Mike have two teenage sons, Christof and Bastian.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Christina completed her Master\u2019s Degree and PhD in religion at the University of Toronto, with a<br>focus on Christian evangelical purity movements in the United States.<br>After teaching world religions at a number of universities, Christina turned to conflict resolution<br>workshop facilitation and consulting and has especially loved her work with Indigenous<br>communities in Ontario and Qu\u00e9bec. She continues to do this work on a part-time basis.<br>Christina has been a member at TUMC for many years, serving as a preacher, usher, worship-<br>leader, committee member and youth Sunday School teacher, and was thrilled to answer the call<br>to become a pastor alongside Peter Haresnape in January 2025.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ministry Team for Youth and Children<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Audrey Wichert <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tumc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/20230517_103627-1-scaled.jpg\" width=\"265\" height=\"230\"><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\"><strong>\u201cDespite my love of open spaces, I gravitate towards the Sunday School rooms in the basement. For me they symbolize the nurturing that we do in our congregation and the amazing conversations that happen when people gather with intentionality. There is also a secret in the youth room, which only graduated youth and their sponsors know about!\u201d<\/strong><\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Audrey brings her energy, gifts, wisdom, faith and humour to the important work of nurturing our kids through Christian Education, Venture Club (pre-teens), GERMS (junior youth) and TUMY (senior youth). She&#8217;s assisted in this ministry by carefully vetted volunteers from the congregation to ensure a safe, fun, supportive and faith-building experience for children and teens.<\/mark><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Audrey is a Toronto transplant from southern Alberta, and still misses the big skies and coulees of the prairies. Hanging out with kids, teenagers and young adults is a passion of hers, as is creating inclusive spaces and opportunities for people to gather and support one another. When not engaged in making large quantities of food to support such gatherings, Audrey can be found on a bike, on a walk, in a provincial park, in the garden, nose down in a good book, or in conversation with her kids, family, friends and neighbours. She is married to Geoff and has 4 young adult children, plus several others who are part of their chosen family.&nbsp;<\/mark><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">She has been part of the TUMC community for 32 years, working with children and youth for all of those years, the last 6 of them as a staff member.&nbsp;<\/mark><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Y<mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">ou can email her here.&nbsp;<a style=\"pointer-events: none;\" href=\"mailto:Audrey.wichert@tumc.ca\">Audrey.wichert@tumc.ca<\/a><\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Office Administrator<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Madalene Arias <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\"><strong>&#8220;I have been coming to this building since I was in elementary school. For a time, I even helped clean it in the evenings. I love looking out the large windows in the lobby area. My favorite place is the sanctuary on the ground floor. When it is empty, I enjoy sitting there to pray, think, or simply be. I feel I can always count on the energy there to ground myself and find peace and reassurance time and time again. I invite anyone else to try it out.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Madalene is also a writer for <em>Canadian Mennonite Magazine<\/em>. She completed her journalism degree at Humber College. As a story-teller, Madalene values the personal stories people share about themselves to help build understanding and inspire compassion. She enjoys listening or reading about the experiences that make a person who they are. She cares deeply about social justice, and it is for this reason that she enjoys being part of a peace church like TUMC where people from different walks of life use their different gifts and talents to help create a more just and loving world.
