2006 - 2007 TUMC Christian Education Program
This fall our congregation will be beginning a new curriculum. "Gather Round" is a Bible based curriculum produced by Mennonite Church Canada and USA and the Church of the Brethren. Our Sunday school tested the curriculum last fall, and it was met with enthusiasm, criticism, and a hint of rebellion. The teachers submitted their comments, and many of the kinks in the program were ironed out. We are very excited about the learning opportunities provided by this curriculum, and we look forward to the year ahead.

Two aspects of the material are different from the previous Jubilee materials:
  1. This curriculum presents materials for preschool through high school, as well as material for a class of parents and caregivers.
  2. Its four-year Bible outline is consistent for all ages: children, youth and adults will study from the same broad text at the same time. This creates an opportunity for families to talk about the themes together, and also for the whole congregation to be thinking together about how the biblical material intersects with the present in creative and challenging ways. Parents, look for the "Talkabout" in your mailboxes - this is a take home item designed to stimulate discussion.
For the time being, we are not pursuing the adult portion of the curriculum. In adult class, we will be pursuing various themes as the year progresses.
