The TUMC Library
TUMC Library Committee:
Judi B
Purpose:
The TUMC Library seeks to provide both print and non-print materials which will
serve as resources for the Christian Education program, for worship, and for
faith development. The intention is to provide materials not
duplicated elsewhere (such as a public library or the history collection in the
Mennonite Heritage Library at SCOC), thus creating a library which will meet
the unique needs of the Church community.
Selection Policy:
The following selection policy is intended to:
- guide purchases
- aid in assessing materials donated by those in the Church community or
others
- guide in weeding the collection on a regular basis
This policy will be carried out by the members of the Library Committee, who
will consult regularly with others, such as the Christian Education Committee,
the Worship Committee, the Pastor and other professional librarians in the
congregation. The Library Committee will report to the Christian
Education Committee, who will represent them on the Church Board.
Criteria:
1. The materials must support the purpose of the library.
2. If materials are factual, they must be authoritative and
reliable.
3. The materials must be current and/or of enduring value.
4. The materials must support Christian principles.
5. The materials must meet a particular need of the
library=s constituents to ensure adequate usage.
6. The following physical conditions will be considered when
selecting books:
- the sturdiness
of the binding
- the clarity of
the print and the print size
- the quality of
illustrations
7. Every attempt will be made to ensure that the cost of
material is in line with its estimated usage and appeal.
